Angry Birds Seasons for Android

Review By ZTEX
Angry Birds: Seasons started off as a cool little advent calendar version of the main Angry Birds game, with a new puzzle for each day from December 1 through Christmas day. It was a terrific little gimmick, a way to pace yourself through Angry Birds style gameplay and look forward to something new, as well as having a new topic to chat with people (if you happen to know anyone who plays Angry Birds) on a daily basis.

There was also a Halloween style set of puzzles, I'm not sure if the game was released originally as a Halloween game and re-released for the advent calendar, but there are 45 Halloween levels, plus the three bonus stars for the giant pumpkin. I haven't been able to unlock that yet, but yeah, 45 Halloween levels was a pretty sweet little bonus when all I thought I'd be getting was the Christmas thing.

So through Christmas, I thought this was a cool gimmick for the game, but then an 18 level "Hogs and Kisses" update came for Valentine's Day, then an 18 level "Go Green, Get Lucky" for St Patrick's, and then an 18 level "Easter Eggs" update for, you guessed it, Easter. And then, "Summer Picnic", 30 levels with a summer feel, butterflies, lemonade, sunglasses, and green pigs going down. Angry Birds: Seasons isn't just a fun little off-shoot of Angry Birds, it's a way for the Angry Birds game to keep delivering.

Angry Birds itself is simple enough - you have a structure on the right side of the game area, with wood, ice, stone and maybe metal. There are evil green pigs placed at specific places, as well as little bonus items. On the left, the angry birds and a slingshot. You pull the bird back and at an angle that you want him launched at, and he fires, dismantling the structure and pigs and bonus items along the way. There are a variety of different birds that you use, though they are always in a specific order for each stage.

You get points for destroying things, and for birds left over. Stages are complete when all the pigs are gone, or you've run out of ammo (and thus lose the stage). Each level has 3 different star levels for completion, the more points, the more stars. Some levels are pretty easy to figure out how to max out your star rating, others will have you pulling your hair out for days. Or you can choose to simply ignore the stars and try to just get through the levels. Either way, you have a decent challenge and compelling puzzle gameplay, and tons of stages to play.

Where Angry Birds gives you a terrific and complete game, Seasons gives you a little bit at a time, but eventually has become my favorite flavor of Angry Birds, and with timely content updates and all of the gameplay that makes Angry Birds so good, it's my favorite phone game so far.
